Does your student have several  Characteristics of Dyslexia that are interfering with learning?

Initial Phone Consultation

  • Discuss your concerns regarding your student's struggles

  • Decide if Barton Tutoring might be a good fit

  • If your student has signs of dyslexia as well as other conditions, a complete neuropsych evaluation may be recommended.

Assessment

  • Phone interview to discuss the student's educational and developmental history

  • Submit school records, prior testing reports, and several schoolwork samples for review  

  • In-person assessment evaluating each of the weaknesses listed in the research-based definition of dyslexia  

  • Discuss findings and receive a report that can be used to guide instruction by a private tutor or to inform a student's private school

  • Public schools typically do not use this type of assessment to determine eligibility for special services.

Tutoring

Dyslexia Morgan Hill offers one-on-one tutoring using Foundation In Sounds and the Barton Reading & Spelling System. The Barton System is a tutoring system for children, teenagers, or adults who struggle with spelling, reading, and writing.  It is different from conventional reading programs because it is an intensive, evidence-based, structured program grounded in Orton-Gillingham

The Barton Reading & Spelling System:

  • meets all requirements of No Child Left Behind

  • supports Common Core

  • is California Board of Education approved

Not everyone is ready to be tutored using the Barton System.
New students must:
  • struggle with spelling when writing.
  • struggle to easily sound out unknown words when reading.
  • be at least 5 years old and in kindergarten.

  • speak and comprehend spoken English.

  • have an IQ of 70 or higher.

  • pass a student screening.
